Vituhmins VIP: Eitan Schorr
For our second installment of Vituhmins VIP, we had the opportunity to sit down and chat with Eitan Schorr, an incredibly talented music manager and marketer who’s been making waves in the business for sometime now. In 2018, Eitan moved to Los Angeles where he would build a wide range of experience and an invaluable network through numerous label and management positions. Today, he represents 5 artist acts (6 in total, with one act being a duo) and 3 producers, through his own company. As impressive as these accolades are, the real reason I chose to interview and spotlight Eitan is because of his humility. For as long as I have known him, Eitan has always been someone willing to lend a hand in projects outside his own, and someone who is passionate about connecting people to streamline them for success and greatness. He is a good person, he cares about others, and he helps people get their start in an industry that is known for being hard to break into.
Interview:
Decker: “Thank you so much for joining us Eitan, it’s a pleasure and an honor. You have been absolutely killing it this year with your music company Plugintheox Management, and its numerous day-to-day clients. How did you get started in music?”
Eitan: “I got my start back in 2016 while attending University of Oregon. I realized I had a talent for bringing people together and throwing events, so I began billing all the artists I was managing at the time on every Hip-Hop show that came through local venues. Eventually that grew into me and my artists throwing our own shows that very quickly started to sell out 500-600 cap rooms with just local talent.
Fast forward to 2018, I decided to leave school and seek out my first real internship in music: an internship in Artist Management over at Nettwerk Music Group, working under Ryan Chisholm and Robert Dugan. Following my time at Nettwerk, I then moved over to Atlantic Records as an A&R intern. Once that internship ended, I knew I needed something else. It was the middle of the summer, so I reached out to Robert Dugan again. I quickly got tasked with driving Mike Posner’s ‘97 Dodge Van from Detroit, MI to Burbank, CA. Without hesitation I hopped on a flight the next day and headed to pick up the van. I drove the van back in two and a half days; it was quite the experience.
Once I got back a few weeks passed and I reached out to Robert once again seeing if there were any other opportunities for me… there was! Mike Posner was looking for a new personal assistant. I ended up interviewing with Mike and got the job. I worked with Mike for the 9 months leading up to his Walk Across America and the release of his “A Real Good Kid” Album.
After my time with Mike I decided to shift gears and landed another internship this time with APG/Atlantic in Digital Marketing for all of their Hip-Hop/R&B acts. As my internship progressed people had left APG and jobs opened. I ended up becoming a full time contractor in marketing working on acts such as Kehlani, Don Toliver, NBA Youngboy, Kevin Gates, and many more. I spent about a year and a half there before I left to focus on my own roster at Plugintheox Management.”
Decker: “Who do you currently work with?”
Eitan: “Currently I work with a number of extremely talented artists and producers. My roster consists of Calabasas (Artist Duo), Kevin George (Artist), Prznt (Artist), Crash Rarri (Artist), Jay Rare (Artist), Chris B (Producer), Vodli (Producer), and Lasik (Producer). It’s amazing to work with all the talented people on my roster. Very excited for where everyone and everything is headed.”
Decker: “Tell us a little bit about your journey; was it a straight path, or did you find yourself taking many twists and turns to get here?”
Eitan: “The path was anything but straight but the rollercoaster ride I’ve been on has made me appreciate the process so much more. I’ve learned that, in moments that you feel like giving up, it’s actually time to give it another push, and then things will fall into place. The music industry especially as a manager is not for those who give up easily you will be torn apart and left to put yourself back together constantly. It is a thankless job, often times, but leads to the sweetest success when you see something you built with a talented and deserving creative work out. My advice to anyone looking to come into this field is count to ten before you make any decisions, always think about the bigger picture while accounting for the the details, and learn from your losses whilst appreciating every win.”
Decker: “What has been one of your favorite moments of your career so far?”
Eitan: “I’d say my favorite moments have been traveling with my clients for shows, work trips, events, etc. Building more than just a client-to-manager business relationship but rather a real, genuine relationship. I feel like I treat my clients like family as much as possible. It’s never been about the money for me. It’s always been about proving to myself and those around me that anything is possible when you are willing to sacrifice everything.
If I had to highlight one specific instance that was really dope to experience was going to Cody, WY during the pandemic with Calabasas and spending time on Kanye’s ranch. The timing was impeccable you had some of the craziest people there like Pusha T, Justin Bieber, Ronny J, Rick Rubin, Tony Williams, Dame Dash, and more. It was an inspiring time and also the scenery in Cody is breathtaking nature truly.”
Decker: “With the many artists and producers you currently represent, which upcoming projects can you tell us about that you are excited for?”
Eitan: “I’m excited for everything honestly. I couldn’t pick one specific thing cause everyone is doing amazing work but I know a lot of the music and work that is going to come from my roster will be timeless. I truly believe they all have the ability to pave the way for the next generation of superstars in their respective lanes.”
Decker: “What advice do you have for young people looking to get into the music industry?”
Eitan: “Rome wasn’t built in a day, and nor will your career in the music industry. Network laterally and also vertically, simultaneously. Build relationships that go both ways with everyone. Be an individual who just wants to and can add value to any situation. Sharpen your skills in different things to find opportunities and get your foot in the door. Finally, don’t take anything personally; we are all human, we make mistakes. Learn to surround yourself with an all star squad if you can’t do something yourself delegate to your peers and facilitate opportunities for those around you it all comes back around.”
Decker: “In 5-10 years, where do you hope to see yourself?”
Eitan: “In 5-10 years I see myself having a media conglomerate not only in artist and producer management but also film, sports, and beyond. I want to change not only the music industry but the entire entertainment landscape, and music is just the stepping stone. The vision is clear and with every move, win, and lesson it becomes even more refined.
More specifically, I see my entire roster having numerous awards and recognitions across the board for their achievements. For myself I know you’ll see me on Billboard and Forbes one day but until then we keep working.”
Eitan, thank you for sharing your story and we are excited to watch your journey and hear more music from your artists!
