Check out our interview below!
David: Tell us a little bit about yourself!
HELLSTRVCK: My name is Damian Marin, my stage name is HELLSTRVCK. I love to create most of my songs from scratch with my friend Tristan Wells. What is created often comes out as nostalgic but futuristic, a weird mix but a contagious taste to the ear and mind. My style is unique because I test boundaries by blending many genres into one solid piece of art.
David: How did you get started in music?
HELLSTRVCK: It all started with me wanting to play high school basketball. I thought I had a curse because every year before tryouts lightning struck and I injured and re-injured my left knee. Senior year I thought I was finally going to be able to try out. The Sunday before the Monday tryouts, I decided to go shoot free throws outside. Sounds safe right? I shot a freethrow and as I went to get my rebound the gravel of the outside court made me slip and tore my left ACL. At that point I had lost all hope and wrote a song about basketball. It felt like art writing about the devastating events so I began to write more and more songs everyday.
David: What are some of your musical influences?
HELLSTRVCK: Some of my musical influences are Joji, Juice WRLD, an XXXTENTACION.
David: What have been some of your favorite moments with music so far
HELLSTRVCK: Some of my favorite moments were meeting other creative minds especially in the videography industry because it is awesome to see that musicians and photographers/videographers share many characteristics.
David: You are about to drop a new Double Single ‘MAKE IT OUT OK’, tell us a little bit about the meaning behind the songs and your creative process.
HELLSTRVCK: These songs were made almost immediately after finding out I had landed my first hyperpop editorial ! It is a positive message to musicians and anyone out there who just needs to be fed positive energy. Thrilled and excited, me and my friend Tristan Wells wanted to produce another hyperpop joint for our new community that we wish to build and appreciate.
David: What’s next for hellstrvck?
HELLSTRVCK: What I am always striving for is to be my own favorite artist. A blend of sad and happy genres along with live performances is what the future holds.
