Sprout floats on “germantown dreams”

Philadelphia rapper sprout’s new track “Germantown Dreams” and accompanying video is an explosion of drug-fueled, sonic exploration. Powered by a trippy, piano-laced beat and the sound of lean pouring, sprout’s voice blends into the instrumental creating a song that makes you feel like you’re melting into your chair.

However, as the song progresses, sprout brings you back out of your seat with strained, emo-rock-influenced belting about praying for his opps and being unable to express his feelings to a significant other. The Philly native goes back and forth between this screamo flow and wavering melodic mumbles. All in all, this song is anything but a typical Philly song and doesn’t quite fit into the Playboi Carti-influenced second wave of Soundcloud rappers either.

sprout’s DIY videos, wandering vocals and rambunctious energy are truly something different coming out of Philly and make him stand out from the crowd.
