Artist Spotlight: Who the heck is Aimee Vant?
If you work in music, or are a little more than a casual listener of indie and pop, then chances are, you’ve heard the name “Aimee Vant” over the past few weeks. With numerous write ups from Early Rising and Sheesh, ongoing support from video and artist discovery platform Live2Create, and having been made the face of A1234’s Discovery playlist, its nearly impossible to go somewhere in the upcoming indie and pop realm without being reminded of her recent inception into the industry. So, who the heck is she?
Originally from Reading, Massachusetts, Aimee Vant is a a singer-songwriter who’s sound can best be described as indie, pop, electro, and in some cases, pop-punk. Finding influences from Gracie Abrams, Julia Michaels, Tom Odell, Holly Humberstone, Sia and Coldplay, each and every one of her tracks are of a unique and nuanced sound, and pay great homage to these inspirations. “Powerful yet delicate; energetic yet emotionally exhausted. She is a songbird for a generation that struggles with themes of heartbreak, loneliness, and identity crisis,” reads her Spotify bio, and we can wholeheartedly agree with this assessment. Her music and subject matter definitely puts her in a lane of her own; she might sound a bit like Olivia Rodrigo, but she talks about things much more intimidating and complex than a breakup, unlike much of “SOUR” (an album we still adore, by the way!).
Having completed her undergraduate degree in Contemporary Writing and Production at Berklee College of Music, her classical training and modern day industry education are quite telling, as she is consistently creating engagement-worthy TikTok content and constantly collaborating with industry peers, proving to us that she has a strong understanding of what she’s doing, and the work required to make it in todays ever growing industry; an industry where being a female pop singer becomes increasingly more competitive by the day.
We first found Vant through her song “Airbnb”, which was included on Spotify’s “New Music Friday” playlist on its February release date. Soon after, it was picked up by many of the most prominent independent curators on Spotify to date, like Ari Elkins, Carla’s Infinite Playlist, laurasplaylists, and twenty minutes later. This propelled Vant to a spot on Spotify’s massively popular editorial playlist, “Indie Pop”, which opened many new doors for her, as well as brought in a much larger audience than she had previously experienced. It is important to mention that, although Vant’s streaming numbers are of a smaller, more beginner level at the moment, these accolades are huge, and even more impressive considering they were achieved this early on in her career. They lead us to believe that massive things are in store for her, and we are far from alone in thinking that, too.
Her most recent track, “SAFEWORD,” released June 3rd, proves our suspicions about her once more, as she shows a willingness to experiment and genre-bend in her writing process. With “Airbnb” being a pop ballad and “SAFEWORD” being a pop-punk anthem, the only two real similarities between her two most recent tracks have been her incredible vocals, and both tracks exhibiting an equally impressive level of quality. This music might be coming from an artist with 26k monthly listeners, but it sounds radio ready. For this reason, and for the many other included above, we highly advise you jump on the Aimee Vant train before it inevitably becomes a bandwagon.
